MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #43
Written By: Ryan Parrott
Art By: Daniele di Nicuolo
Colors By: Walter Baiamonte with Color Assistance By Katia Ranalli
Letters By: Ed Dukeshire
Cover By: Jamal Campbell
Variant Covers By: Dan Mora, Goni Montes, Kris Anka & Diego Galindo
Price: $3.99

Dayne has studied the Rangers and now he is ready to send them a message. Parrott does an excellent job here balancing these two teams of Rangers, with Dayne taking out the main team and the Omegas having to take on the Slave Queen of Breel. The action is some of the best in Power Rangers, but it is the character moments that really make this issue such a pleasure, this shines the most in Kimberly's call to Trini. Ryan writes the dialogue so well that you can hear the pain and emotion in Kimberly's voice that it makes me look forward to seeing Trini listening to the message. di Niculo shows why he is a Power Ranger Morphin Art Master! The scene with Dayne and the team bring to mind such poetic and fluid choreography as Darth Maul's lightsaber battle in Phantom Menance. Overall if you are new to Power Rangers or a long time fan like myself this is a perfect title for you. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
Verdict: 5 Power Bolts

BATMAN: NIGHTWALKER OGN
Based On Novel By: Marie Lu
Adapted By: Stuart Moore
Art By: Chris Wildgoose with Cam Smith
Colors By: Laura Trinder
Letters By: Troy Peteri
Price: $16.99

Bruce Wayne has just turned 18 and became a millionaire but his life takes a turn when he decides to pursue a member of the Nightwalkers. I am not a Young Adult Novel type person, I am a bit out of the target age range, and I just, in general, don't like most of them, but this book is the exception. I was amazed by how well done this story is, so much so that I read the original YA novel by Lu and I have to say that Moore did a great job adapting the script. This had all the best aspects of a YA novel with the drama and the sharp dialogue while balancing all the action a great comic. The introduction of the Nightwalkers is something I would like to see brought into the main DC Universe somehow. The art here was great, it had a nice stylized almost anime/manga feel to it. The action seemed to pop off the pages while the characters really sold the drama through their facial expressions. Overall this was a great addition to the Batman Mythos and should have been what Gotham was. I highly recommend to YA and comic readers alike. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
Verdict: 4 ¾ Stars

HARLEEN #1
Written By: Stjepan Sejic
Art By: Stjepan Sejic
Letters By: Gabriela Downie
Cover By: Stjepan Sejic
Variant Cover By: Stjepan Sejic
Price: $7.99

The Black Label got off to a bit of a bumpy start with Batman Damned and the controversy around it but with Harleen #1 we are on a better path to see the potential of this line. Harleen #1 takes us down a winding path like in Dr. Quinzel's dreams showing us her descent into her infamous Mad Love. The brilliance of Sejic's story is that at its core it is the thesis of Dr. Quinzel herself, the permanent deterioration of empathy, the birth of a sociopath. Sejic allows the narrative of the story to not only tell Quinzel's story but to put you into her role, as she takes on the role of the Joker. Sejic does a masterful job pulling double duty on story and art capturing each page as a frame of a movie, and in some ways, I can see this as a great script for a Harley Quinn movie. ~ Marcus Robinson
Verdict: 5 Stars

STAR TREK DISCOVERY: AFTERMATH #2
Written By: Kirsten Beyer And Mike Johnson
Art By: Tony Shasteen
Colors By: J.D. Mettler
Letters By: Neil Uyetake
Cover By: Angel Hernandez and J.D. Mettler
Variant Cover By: George Caltsoudas
Price: $3.99

The Klingons arrive for the peace talks but not everyone is there for peace. I am really digging this story, and this issue just did a great job of upping the hype for a Star Trek Pike, Star Trek First Mission, or whatever they want to call it series on CBS All Access. The way they do Klingons here is great, we are seeing all three forms of them, the TOS, TNG, and Discovery Klingons are all represented here, but also introducing the Shadows of Kahless, which could be the Section 31 of the Klingon Empire is just awesome! Beyer and Johnson need to use this as a backdoor pilot/pitch for a Pike Enterprise series right now. Shasteen continues to amaze me with how he captures the likeness of the actors without being a slave to it. But he also does a great job showing the action and the amazing scenery of the Star Trek Universe. Overall, just take my money! ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
Verdict: 4 ¾ Stars

MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN VELOCITY #2
Written By: Dennis "Hopeless" Hallum
Art By: Emilio Laiso
Colors By: Rachelle Rosenberg
Letters By: VC's Travis Lanham
Cover By: Skan
Variant Covers By: Mark Bagley, Mark Morales & Frank D'Armata
Price: $3.99

Peter and Mary Jane team up to find out the truth about the "ghost" that is haunting MJ. Dennis Hallum writes an amazing (no pun intended) Spider-Man, but I think a part of the reason is because of his MJ. I don't think we have ever seen MJ and Peter this close in their entire history, and I have never seen MJ this well written. MJ here reminds me a lot of Lois Lane, not the whole female reporter, but the way she is in the action and doesn't allow herself to be the damsel in distress to her superhero boyfriend. Emilio Laiso does a great job on the art giving us the feel of video game graphics while still keeping it the familiar comic book art. Part of the success of this is Rachelle Rosenberg's colors, the vibrancy of the palette used here delivers that extra something to the art. Overall this was a fantastic issue with great art and oneliners and an ending that has me wanting more. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
Verdict: 4 ½ Stars

When the Avengers are called to a research facility where some of the most deadly viruses are missing only to find a group of heroes with no memory of committing the crime. I wasn't sure going into this issue what to think given the characters assembled, but by the end of it, it had me. Tini Howard does a great job continuing the vibe from Avengers here and getting us to know the Strikeforce team through little references. The pairing of Blade and Angela really appeals to me here, and it was a joy to see Wiccan again. German Peralta does a great job on art while Jordie Bellaire's colors really help set the mood. Overall this was a solid first issue that has me looking forward to the next issue. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
Verdict: 4 Stars
